Gastric Bypass Surgery

Gastric bypass surgery is a bariatric surgical procedure used to treat obesity. This surgery is performed to reduce the size of the stomach and promote weight loss by reducing nutrient absorption in the intestines.

The operation consists of the steps of reducing the size of the stomach and changing the intestinal tract.

During surgery, surgeons reduce the upper part of the stomach into a smaller pouch. This causes the person to consume less food and therefore fewer calories.

In gastric bypass surgery, in addition to making the stomach smaller, changes are also made to the intestines. A connection is created between the esophagus, stomach and small intestine. This aims to reduce the calories absorbed.

The patient is required to arrive in Türkiye 1-2 days before the surgery. Upon arrival, a detailed examination is performed by a specialized medical team and the patient is thoroughly informed about the surgery.

The operation may take between 1 and 4 hours. This time may vary depending on the general health condition of the patient, the experience of the surgical team, the surgical method used (open surgery or closed surgery), the complexity of the surgery and the anatomical features of the patient.

After surgery, the patient is usually discharged within 2-3 days. During this period, the patient’s health status and recovery process are monitored regularly.

2-3 days after discharge, a follow-up examination is performed to evaluate the recovery and to detect any complications early.

If there are no complications after the follow-up examination, the patient can return home. In order to prevent any problems that may arise in the postoperative period, the doctor’s recommendations should be followed.
