Liposuction

Liposuction is a fat removal process that removes fat from body parts such as abdomen, thighs, hips, back, arms and breasts and jowls. These areas are often described as “problem areas” because fat deposits tend to remain despite a person having the ideal weight for their build.

Who are good candidates for liposuction?

The candidate should be in good general health, have a healthy weight range, have a stable weight in the last few months, and have firm and elastic skin. In addition, people who have unwanted fat accumulation in their body despite proper diet and exercise benefit from liposuction.

How is liposuction done?

Liposuction can be done under local or general anesthesia. The patient can be discharged after the procedure, but if large amounts of fat are removed during the procedure, it may be more appropriate to stay in the hospital overnight. The length of stay in the hospital depends on the type of anesthesia, the age and health of the patient, and the amount of fat taken.

Before the operation, the areas to be liposuctioned are carefully determined and marked. Special medicated serum is given to liposuction areas as much as the amount of fat to be removed, a cannula (thin hollow tube) is inserted through a very small incision. The fats are taken out. When the fat aspiration process is completed, a very thin stitch is made to close the incision.

How is the process after liposuction?

In order to relieve swelling and bruising after the operation, the special corset is worn every day for the first month and at night for the next 2 months. Moderate discomfort is felt for the first few days after surgery, and this is treated with painkillers. Walking is started on the first day after the operation because walking helps the blood circulation of the body and also reduces swelling. Most liposuction patients can go to sedentary work (such as office work) after five to seven days, and exercise lightly after two weeks.

The results of the surgery will start to show itself slowly, but the improvements will be noticed immediately. Fully positive results are usually seen six months after surgery.

How long does the liposuction effect last?

Liposuction results are permanent due to the removal of fat cells. However, if the diet is not taken into consideration after liposuction, weight is gained again. However, the weight gained will be distributed more evenly around the general body environment rather than returning to the areas treated with liposuction as fat accumulation.

Will there be any scars after liposuction?

Liposuction is usually made through 4-5 mm incisions and these incisions are made on natural body lines or invisible places such as inside the navel, so there is no obvious scar.

Does liposuction treat cellulite?

Liposuction can improve and reduce the appearance of cellulite to some extent, but it is not an effective treatment for cellulite.
