Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Gastric Sleeve SurgeryGastric sleeve surgery medically known as sleeve gastrectomy, is a procedure performed within the scope of obesity surgery. It is a type of surgery based on achieving weight loss by removing approximately 70-80 percent of the stomach. The aim of sleeve gastrectomy is to support weight loss by enabling the person to eat smaller amounts of food. At the same time, hormonal changes also occur after surgery, which can positively affect appetite control and metabolism.

Laparoscopic surgery (closed surgery) is usually used during the procedure. Laparoscopic surgery allows cameras and surgical instruments to reach the stomach through several small incisions.

Gastric sleeve surgeries consist of preparation, anesthesia, stomach reduction, stitches and recovery. In the preparation phase, the general health status of the patient is evaluated, necessary tests are performed before surgery and the patient is given pre-surgical instructions. Then, the patient is given general anesthesia so that he/she is unconscious and does not feel pain during the operation.

During the operation, the stomach is accessed with laparoscopic surgery and the stomach is reduced into a tube or sleeve shape by removing most of it. This procedure takes one and a half to two hours. After the stomach is reduced, the surgical field is closed and closed with sutures. The patient’s recovery process begins.

Hospitalization is required for 2-3 days after sleeve gastrectomy. Patients coming from abroad will need to stay in Türkiye for 5-7 days in total.

This surgery can be considered for individuals who want to deal with obesity-related health problems and who cannot get results from other weight loss methods. However, before any surgical intervention, the individual’s condition should be carefully evaluated and an appropriate treatment plan should be created. After surgery, regular follow-up with appropriate diet and lifestyle changes is important.
